Quality follow-up

The En Famille International team monitors the progress of every exchange throughout the year. All families benefit from having a local representative who shares their first language and also has first-hand experience of an EFI exchange from a parent’s perspective. This understanding and knowledge is essential in the months when we are setting up the exchange and becomes a lifeline for your child when they are establishing themselves in the home of their foreign exchange.

We are on hand to manage difficulties, articulate concerns and avoid communication problems. Families in the process of an exchange know that they can reach us at any time and are given all our contact details from the outset. Our experience shows us that an exchange is not always a "long, quiet river". However, we do our best to help children adapt to their new way of life and fully support them. We make sure to have a close working relationship with the parents in every exchange, encourage them to ask questions and provide advice drawn from our own experience. The children in an exchange also know that they can reach us very easily. After seven weeks, we conduct a human and linguistic check (VHL) to assess the child's language level and share the report with the family. We also carry out a new assessment about 3 weeks before the child leaves which is also shared with the family and really shows how far they have progressed over the course of the exchange.

The key to the success of an exchange is establishing and maintaining trust between us and our parents. We do our very best to set up quality exchanges. We take care to select families and children who we think will be well matched and put all our energy into qualitative monitoring. Our aim is to find a foreign family that fits and create a lasting bond between their child and yours. A relationship between two families which continues long after the end of the initial exchange.

More than 40 years of experience

En Famille International is a unique organization!

Exchange children: 9 - 15 Years

Our expertise is in the organization of exchanges for young children and young teenagers. In our experience, the younger the child, the better the adventure!

  1. Language immersion is most effective in younger people.
  2. Contrary to what many people believe, young children develop and flourish on long-term exchanges. They integrate into a new family quickly, are less complicated and accept the rules of the foreign family much more easily than teenagers. That being said, we also make very good exchanges, with motivated and courageous teenagers who have a taste for adventure and a willingness to put in the effort.

A true linguistic immersion thanks to strict rules!

Most of our children in exchange do not speak the language of their country of exchange at all. After the first week in the country, we ask that all access to their own language be eliminated (books, digital applications, etc.). The children will experience a real immersion by living in their exchange family. They're going to be part of the family, just like their exchange siblings. They will have the same rights and duties. Thanks to this immersion (family, country, language), children are able to hold a routine conversation after six months. Learn more about this on our results page.

We have put in place rules that seem strict in order to allow children to live their immersive adventure. Take it from us. They work! Our families tell us how these rules have allowed them to manage their exchange and enabled their children to learn a new language.

Life-changing ties between two families

The children in exchange spend a whole year together! Six months in each child's house. This actually creates life-connecting relationships between children and families. The children will get into the habit of seeing each other again after the exchange, during the holidays. Families will also enjoy meeting each other, between "parents" of the same "children."

En Famille International is a small organisation which has an incredible global reach.

It’s run by a team of professionals comprising parents whose own children have completed numerous exchanges with EFI. Together we organise 6-month exchanges in Spain, Germany, Great Britain, Ireland, Canada, USA and Mexico. The two children in exchange spend one year together, six months in each child's home. For older children, we offer variable durations depending on each case.

The rules of our exchange are based on a total linguistic immersion which results in incredible verbal fluidity.
However, it is important to remember that En Famille International offers a second loving family, beyond mastering a foreign language. At the end of the exchange year, the children and families have forged very strong friendships.
We also make the choice of quality before quantity. Our credo is to be close to our families in order to form one large international family that is En Famille International!

Our team works in the different countries according to the same requirements in the choice of the families and in the follow-up of the exchanges.
